AHA’s ACLS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC). This course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.
This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).
Who Should Take the Course?
Healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics.
Course Covers:
- Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
- Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
- Airway management
- Related pharmacology
- Management of ACS and stroke
- Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
Course Delivery
ACLS can be delivered in 2 formats to meet the needs of students and offer flexibility for Instructors. All formats include the same learning objectives and result in the same course completion card.
• Instructor-led Training: Instructors deliver both the cognitive portion of training and the psychomotor component of thorough skills practice and testing in a classroom setting.
• Blended Learning – HeartCode® ACLS: This is a two part process. First the student will take a online test and print it out, then the student will schedule a skills check off with us.

Once on the website, in the search bar under “find a course” click on the drop down menu, then click on Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and then click on HeartCode ACLS. After completing the test, please print it off and bring it with you to class.
ACLS/BLS Update Combination:
This course combines both ACLS and BLS certification update.

Mandatory Precourse Material:
Before you come to your scheduled ACLS/BLS Combination course, the AHA has made it mandatory that you complete the ACLS Self-Assessment Pre-Test and score a 70% or higher to participate in the ACLS course. We have included the link below to the AHA student website. Once you have completed the test, print out the page with your score and bring it with you to class. Once on the website, click on Courses, then click on Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), then click on ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment. Once you have completed the course, please print it out and bring it with you to class. You do not need a Precourse Self-Assessment for BLS.
ACLS renewal:
This course puts a lot of emphasis on high quality CPR and team dynamics. The student should come to class with the knowledge of the ACLS basic pharmacology that is in the ACLS manual, rhythm interpretations and appropriate treatment. For a student to be eligible for the renewal course you must have a current BLS and ACLS card.
Course Fee: $155.00 plus the cost of the ACLS manual.

ACLS skills check off:
The student must have completed the online test portion and come to class with the printed copy showing that they passed. The student should be familiar with the Megacode scenarios that are located in the back of the ACLS manual.
